Labs

We use a Keyence VHX-7000 digital microscope with a magnification of x20 – x2400 for taking high-resolution images of thin sections and rock samples.

A Keyence VR-6000 Profilometer allows us to measure surfaces, such as stylolite or fault surfaces, at high precision in 3D.

With a Keyence EA-300 LIBS (Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscope) we can rapidly analyze the chemical composition of a sample, at a point-resolution of a few micrometers.

Our rock and thin section laboratory is equiped with a variety of saws, drilling, and polishing machines for the preparation of rock samples, confection of thin sections, and polished surfaces, that are used for further analyses.

Among other, we work with the following software in our research projects:

  • Leapfrog
  • Elle
  • MatLab
  • Yade
  • Petrel
  • PhreeqC
  • 3D Photogrammetry Agisoft Metashape
  • OpenDroneMap
  • CloudCompare
  • ArcGIS Pro
  • Virtual Reality Geological Studio

For field work we use drones, field tablets, as well as the classic hammer, lens, and compass.
