Advanced laser technology for the Applied Geology
“This is a huge step forward,” says Prof. Johannes Barth, Chair of Applied Geology at the GeoZentrum Nordbayern. We were able to install all new machines from our successful BMBF equipment application worth almost 800,000 euros by the end of 2024. This investment expands our already well-equipped isotope laboratories with latest laser-technologies. These enable us to measure isotopes of water, CO2 and methane in a mobile and high-resolution manner. A new glove box for working under absence of oxygen is also included. Examples for work with the new equipment foresee investigations of greenhouse gas emissions or improvement of CO2 storage techniques. Students of Geosciences can also expand their education with the latest state of the art equipment.
